Local facts and statistics

Alcohol and other drug use among youth, young adults, and adults is a public health crisis facing communities today and Monroe County, Florida is no different. Alcohol and other drug use is responsible for a series of negative consequences, especially among youth, including violence, crime, motor vehicle crashes, overdoses, high-risk sex, health risks, suicides, accidental deaths, reduced academic performance, increased chance of addiction the earlier the age of onset, economic impacts and so on. Identifying and understanding our community’s alcohol and other drug issues is the first step in changing substance use rates and community norms promoting and/or allowing use.

  • 3.7% reported trying a Prescription Depressant 
  • 2.8% reported trying a Prescription Pain Reliever  
  • 2.9% reported trying a Prescription Amphetamine
